If you’re looking for a reputable doodle breeder in the Boise area, you’ve come to the right place. There are currently over 40 types of Poodle mixes, or doodles, as they’re lovingly called. Doodles are born from Poodles bred to other purebreds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors and Australian Shepherds.

Poodles come in three standard sizes, therefore there is a wide range of dog sizes available- everything from the toy Pomapoo to the standard Cockapoo and the larger Newfypoo. These breeds are often low- to non-shedding and are considered a safe bet for most people with allergies.

Poodles tend to be affectionate, friendly, intelligent and charismatic. We really enjoy having Poodles come in for training! Pay close attention to the other dog the Poodle is bred with. Look up that dog’s traits to make sure they’re a good fit for your lifestyle.

F1, F2, F3 doodles…

A doodle from a purebred pairing (F1) – like a purebred Poodle bred to a purebred Labrador – will likely have strong personality traits from each breeder. Whereas a puppy that is an F2 (both parents were doodles) or F3 (grandparents were doodles), may have less defined or obvious personality traits from its different breeds.

F1 doodles tend to have unknown coat types, and it is not guaranteed that they will be hypoallergenic or non-shedding. Whereas F1B doodles (a doodle bred back to a Poodle) will have a wavy or curly coat, and will likely be hypoallergenic and non-shedding.

Recommended Idaho doodle breeders

Let’s take a look at a few doodle breeders here in Idaho! We’ve exclusively chosen breeders who pay close attention to health, conformation, orthopedics and temperament. Thus, we have done our best to avoid backyard breeders and puppy mills, which sadly run rampant.

Despite the fact that doodles are not, in fact, purebred dogs, there are breeders out there who are breeding doodles ethically. Thank goodness! Because if no one is out there producing well-bred doodles, then everyone will flock to the backyard breeders, pet stores and puppy mills.

In any event, if you are interested in purchasing a doodle from one of these breeders, reach out to them. Ask questions. Meet their dogs. See where they live. Make sure their breeding program is the right fit for you.

Fife & Wife Ranch Bernedoodles and Poodles

At Fife & Wife Ranch, breeding is a family affair. For Paige, her husband and their three boys, life revolves around breeding Bernedoodles. They even raise pigs to feed their dogs and milk their two goats twice a day to mix with the dogs’ food. Their next two projects, again for the dogs’ benefit, will be chickens for eggs and honey bees. Now that’s dedication!

Fife & Wife Ranch breeds for quality, not quantity. They’re a small-scale breeder that provides puppies with excellent temperaments and health in a kennel-free environment. (You should see their YouTube video, it’s dog heaven!) They health test all their dogs, although some have hip x-rays still pending, and offer a two year health guarantee.

Sunny Lane Doodles

Located an hour from Boise, Sunny Lane Doodles specializes in Aussiedoodles and Bernedoodles. They strive to produce well-rounded, healthy companions with excellent temperaments.

The lucky pups are raised on a 13 acre farm. They get lots of exercise, they’re fed a quality diet and they get lots of love from the family. Each dog is genetically tested or cleared by parentage. Their genetic testing includes Von Willebrand Disease, Degenerative Myelopathy, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Collie Eye Anomaly, Hereditary Cataracts and Multidrug Resistance.

Some of their dogs are hip tested. Here’s what one of the owners, Anna Boster, said about it in an email to me, “I have read mixed reviews on hip testing (I don’t use OFA because of their inconsistencies in testing) and most hip issues are genetic but from being raised on bad surfaces, played with too hard, exercised too vigorously, etc. I promote prevention, teaching new puppy owners proper care to prevent hip issues in the future. At the moment I do not do elbow testing.”

Sunny Lane Doodles implements Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)- which is proven to have positive and lasting effects on dogs. Plus, they get puppies started on potty training, crate training, and grooming to set them up for success in their new homes.
