Eagle Dog Training for Well-Mannered Family Dogs

Veteran‑owned • 12+ years experience • Thousands of dogs trained • Published author

At Valor K9 Academy, our Eagle dog training programs are designed for family dogs who need reliable obedience, better manners, and calm behavior in real life — not just in a class setting.

Whether your dog struggles with pulling on leash, ignoring commands, jumping on guests, reactivity, or inconsistent listening at home, we focus on clear communication, structured training, and lasting results you can depend on every day.

We don’t believe in quick fixes or cookie-cutter methods. Our programs are built around clarity, consistency, and accountability — for both dogs and owners.

Trusted by dog owners across Eagle, Star, Middleton, Avimor, and the Treasure Valley.

Who This Program Is For

Our Eagle dog training programs are ideal for:

  • Family dogs over 6+ months old

  • Dogs who know commands but don’t listen consistently

  • Dogs with poor leash manners or impulse control

  • Jumping, barking, or overexcitement issues

  • Owners who want a calm, well-mannered companion — not just obedience on paper

If your dog is great at home but falls apart in public, or listens sometimes but not when it matters, this program is for you.

Eagle Dog Training Programs

Best for: Owners who want hands-on guidance and customized training for dogs 6 months and older.

Looking for expert Boise dog training for your adolescent or adult dog? Our weekly, one-hour private lessons are designed for dogs 6+ months old who need reliable obedience, better manners, and increased confidence — without serious behavioral issues. You’ll work one-on-one with your trainer in her in-home training space in Eagle, Idaho, or in real-world public settings.

Our private dog training program commonly focuses on:

  • Obedience and reliable commands

  • Leash manners and polite walking

  • E-collar training (when appropriate)

  • Household manners and impulse control

  • Confidence building and focus around distractions

This program is appropriate for friendly dogs and dogs with mild, non-aggressive behavior challenges such as excitement, mild anxiety, or some fear. It is not intended for dogs with human or dog aggression, severe separation anxiety, or serious resource guarding. Our Board & Train program is better-suited for that.

We’ll help you set clear goals and create a personalized training plan. After each lesson, you’ll receive step-by-step homework and ongoing support to reinforce progress at home.

Space is limited to ensure each dog receives individualized attention and meaningful, lasting results.

Looking for expert Boise dog training that transforms your dog into a reliable, well-mannered companion? The three-week Good Dog™ Board & Train is our most popular program, designed for friendly dogs who are comfortable with people, other dogs, and new environments. This immersive experience is perfect for families who want their dog obedient both at home and in public.

During your dog’s stay, we focus on:

  • Foundational obedience commands (sit, down, place, heel, come)

  • Reliable on-leash and off-leash obedience

  • Calm manners in the home (no jumping, barking, counter-surfing, etc.)

  • Polished behavior in public spaces — cafes, stores, trails, and more

  • Structured socialization and exposure to new environments

Your dog lives in the trainer’s home and receives daily one-on-one training sessions personalized to your dog’s needs and your household. While in training, your dog learns in a calm, structured environment with clear rules, socialization, and real-world practice.

All Board & Train programs include owner education, private lessons with you during or after the program, and ongoing support to ensure your dog’s obedience and manners last. They do not include your dog’s crate, food, or take-home training equipment.

Whether you’re local to Boise or coming from out of town, the Good Dog™ Board & Train delivers lasting results, giving you a confident, reliable dog at home and in public.

  • Starting at $1,241.00 per week

Best for: Owners who want professional guidance at their own pace for adolescent and adult dogs.

Every successful training journey starts with a plan—and it starts here.

All consultations are designed to get to know you and your dog, evaluate behavior and temperament, and recommend the training program that best fits your goals. Together, we’ll review your dog’s history, current challenges, and what you hope to achieve through training.

Why a Consultation Matters

A consultation gives you the chance to:

  • Ask questions and gain clarity on your dog’s behavior

  • Understand our proven, balanced training approach

  • Receive a clear roadmap for success

We’ll also determine if your dog is a good fit for private lessons, Board & Train, or a custom training plan. (Please note: consultations do not guarantee training enrollment. We currently do not offer behavioral training for dogs showing dangerous or aggressive behavior.)

In-Person or Virtual

For your convenience, consultations can be in-person at our downtown Eagle, Idaho training space, or virtual.

A consultation is required for in-person training for all dogs five months of age and older.

  • $99.00 — Puppies & basic obedience (30 minutes)

Our Training Philosophy

The VK9 Method

At Valor K9 Academy, we train the whole dog—mind, body, and behavior. Our VK9 Method blends clarity, structure, and positive reinforcement with the right tools to ensure dogs learn quickly, reliably, and safely. We balance firm guidance with fairness, helping dogs succeed while achieving results in a short amount of time.

Step 1: Positive Reinforcement & Slip Lead Control

Training begins with clear communication using a slip lead. Friendly dogs learn what’s expected through positive rewards—food, praise, and play—establishing a strong foundation of understanding, cooperation, and trust.

Step 2: Accountability & Leash Training

Once dogs understand expectations, we introduce a training collar (prong collar, pro-training collar, or gentle leader) to hold them accountable for their behavior. At this stage, food rewards are gradually faded out. Dogs learn to respond reliably on leash, even around distractions, while maintaining focus and control.

Step 3: Off-Leash Reliability with E-Collar

For off-leash control, we layer in e-collar training, starting with recall and foundational off-leash behaviors. By this point, dogs are obedient, confident, and responsive in any environment.

Whole-Dog Focus

The VK9 Method is about more than obedience. We provide:

  • Physical exercise to release energy

  • Mental stimulation to challenge the mind

  • Structured training at both ends of the leash

We teach dogs how to make good choices, build confidence, and develop impulse control—resulting in dogs who understand what’s expected and choose to comply.

Why the VK9 Method Gets Real Results

Effective training is about clarity, leadership, and follow-through—not constant bribing or repeating commands.

With the VK9 Method, dogs learn to respond calmly and reliably around distractions, people, other dogs, and everyday life situations. We do things the right way while producing real, lasting results.

Real-World Training

Since 2014, we’ve trained thousands of dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperaments to stay calm, focused, and obedient in real-world situations. Our programs get real results—dogs who listen, behave, and thrive anywhere.
